UNC Basketball transfer working to resolve eligibility issue

Date:

When the UNC basketball program took the court for their exhibition contest against Memphis, the Tar Heels were wthout two players who are expected to be contributors.

The first was obviously RJ Davis, who was injured during the team’s Blue-White scrimmage. The other was transfer Ty Claude, but no details were announced at the time as to why he was sidelined.

Thanks to Inside Carolina, we now know the answer.

North Carolina is working to resolve an eligibility issue for Claude. This season would mark Claude’s sixth collegiate season with the UNC basketball program being the fourth school he’ll play for once he regains his eligibility.

A late addition to this year’s roster, Claude committed to North Carolina in August. Now, as the season is less than two weeks away, Claude’s status is still up in the air.

The Goldsboro, North Carolina native has had quite the college journey up to this point, as he’s been at three different schools thus far. He started his career at Morehead State and, unfortunately, dealt with injuries during his three years on campus.

From there, Claude transferred to Western Carolina, where he had a breakout season, averaging 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest. After just one season at Western Carolina, Claude once again transferred and joined the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, where he averaged 4.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in a role off the bench.

The hope is that this issue will get resolved as soon as possible. Claude was brought in to provide some additional front court depth, as the hope is that this issue is cleared up before the start of the 2024-2025 season.
