UPDATE: Two people killed, three others injured in early morning shooting in south Redding

Date:

Redding police said two men were killed and three other adults were injured in a shooting that took place in the area of a strip mall on the city’s south side early Friday morning.

That brings to five the number of homicides that have been reported in Redding so far this year. There have been two other years — 2016 and 2020 — since 2010 that have had five homicides, according to Redding Police Department crime statistics.

Friday’s shooting was reported just before 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Westside Road and Meadowbrook Drive near the Westwood Village shopping center.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found two men dead and several witnesses.

“It was reported that multiple vehicles had fled prior to the officers’ arrival, including the suspect vehicle. While at the scene, officers learned that three additional adult victims, two females and one male, had arrived at a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting,” said a news release posted on the Redding Police Department Facebook page.

Sgt. Aaron Hollemon told the Record Searchlight that this does not appear to be a random shooting. Hollemon said the suspect or suspects are still on the loose as detectives are following up on leads in their investigation.

On Friday afternoon, a portion of Westside Road just east of the Round Table Pizza in the Westwood Village shopping center was still closed. Yellow crime scene tape also was up in front of the Round Table in the Westwood Village shopping center.

According to emergency scanner traffic, a call came in just after 2 a.m. Friday for authorities to respond to the area of Round Table Pizza on reports of two people with possible deadly shooting wounds.

The restaurant would not have been open at that hour.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4214.
