Washington: USA Cricket has sacked head coach Stuart Law (56), a former Australian international, following allegations of racist discrimination by players. The decision was made immediately after the US team suffered a humiliating defeat to Scotland on October 25. Some players, including captain Monank Patel, have claimed that Law’s treatment of players of Indian origin was discriminatory.
The US team, which had previously shocked Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 under Law’s leadership, lost to Scotland by 10 wickets. His ouster during an ongoing cricket series against Scotland has already sparked controversy. USA Cricket’s decision followed allegations of favoritism, mistrust of players, and discrimination against those of Indian descent.
Law assumed the role of head coach of the US cricket team in April 2024, ahead of the T20 World Cup. During his early tenure, the team’s performance generated great enthusiasm as they defeated Pakistan and advanced to the quarter-finals. However, following the World Cup, the relationship between Law and the players soured. During a tour of the Netherlands, tensions escalated, leading to player complaints against Law.
Before taking on the head coach position with the US, Law had served as coach for teams in Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Bangladesh.
