USC Trojans news roundup: Football sellouts, a five-star recruit, and basketball updates

Date:

This week, USC football announced that the Septemer 28 home game vs. Wisconsin and the November 16 home game vs. No. 22 Nebraska are officially sold out. Fans can still get tickets through third-party ticket brokers, though.

It is interesting that these two games have already sold out but other games, such as the huge October 12 showdown with No. 10 Penn State is not. But there could be a good reason for that.

Both Wisconsin and Nebraska have fan bases that have a reputation for supporting their teams both at home and on the road. Thus, these sellouts could be heavily driven by ticket purchases from visiting fans eager to take in a game at the Coliseum.

Though that is just a theory, there is no doubt that these two games will have an electric atmosphere, especially if USC remains in the playoff mix when both contests are played.

In case you missed the news earlier this week, it is worth repeating that USC football picked up a huge win on the recruiting front on Wednesday. 5-star wide receiver Jerome Myles, a Utah product, has announced his intention to play for the Trojans.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder picked USC over Utah and Texas A&M. He’s the first five-star recruit to join the current USC recruiting class and he elevates that class to No. 11 in the nation.

Rated by the 247Sports.com consensus rankings as the No. 36 player in the nation in the class of 2025, he’s the No. 7 wide receiver in the class and the No. 1 player in Utah.

Also this week, new USC head basketball coach, Eric Musselman, provided updates on the health of several players on his roster. The program is currently partaking in fall practices ahead of the upcoming season, which begins in November.

“[Boise State transfer Chibuzo Agbo]’s out with knee soreness,” Musselman said on Tuesday. “Should be practicing on Monday when we go into our 20 hours. [Yale transfer] Matt Knowling is back to limited live stuff but should be full go on Monday.”

Musselman also said that Xavier transfer Desmond Claude is back to full speed and practicing with full contact after an off-season injury. However, freshman Kallai Patton is out indefinitely following surgery.

Also this week, the USC men’s basketball program released its full 2024-25 schedule. There are several games of note on the slate.

The Trojans will have some new Big 12 rivals coming to L.A. this season including Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, and Ohio State. Meanwhile, they will travel to places such as Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, and Maryland as part of their conference slate.

Finally, the USC women’s basketball team also announced its non-conference schedule this week. This year, that consists of ten games.

Intriguing games on the pre-Big Ten docket for the women include the opener against Ole Miss on November 4, a home game with Notre Dame on November 23, and a road trip to national power UCONN on December 21.
