MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Chris Davis Sr., former star of the UW-Whitewater basketball team and Madison native, died on Saturday, according to the university’s athletic department. He played on the team from 2010 through 2012.
Davis was the first Whitewater athlete to ever be named the national player of the year, leading his team to win the WIAC regular season championship, earning a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Davis is remembered as one of the greatest basketball players in the university’s history, but his legacy extended far beyond that, according to Whitewater’s head basketball coach, Jarod Wicher.
Most recently, Davis was the head boys basketball coach at Sun Prairie West High School from 2022-2024.
“His accomplishments during his time at UW-Whitewater are truly remarkable,” said Wicher. “Yet, when I think about Chris and his legacy, I will think about what an incredible father he was to Chris Jr. as well as the impact he made on so many young lives within the communities he served.”
In 2021, Davis was named to D3hoops’ All-Decade Team for 2010 to 2020 honoring the 1,242 points he scored in just two seasons with the Whitewater Warhawks.
