VCSU Women’s Basketball moves to 3-0 after win over Midland University – Valley City State University

SIOUX CITY – VCSU women’s basketball remains undefeated moving to 3-0 on the season. The Vikings defeated Midland University with a score of 85-69 in Sioux City where neither team was the home team. Midland falls to 0-1 on the year.
 
Midland found the first basket of the night and led for most of the first quarter. With 3:43 left in the first quarter midland held a 17-10 lead. VCSU finished the quarter strong cutting the lead to 21-19 with four points by Madison Spacher by the end of the quarter. Midland shot 8-16 and 4-7 from beyond the arc. Valley City shot 7-16 and 1-3 from beyond the arc. The Vikings were 4-6 from the free throw line in the first quarter as well.
 
In the second quarter the Vikings outscored Midland 22-12 finishing the half with a 41-33. In the second the Vikings dominate the paint shooting 10-19 from the field. In second they did not attempt a three pointer during their 14-0 run which took the score from 19-24 to 33-24.
 
After closing the first half with a lead of 41-33 the Vikings held the lead for the remainder of the game. Halfway through the third quarter Midland narrowed the gap to within two however the Viking quickly answered scoring six unanswered. With 46 seconds left the in the third the Vikings once again reached a double-digit lead that they held for the entire fourth quarter.
 
Tonight, the Vikings were led by Ashlyn Diemert who score 20 points shooting 9-15 and 2-4 from the three-point line. She was followed by Olivia Backus who shot 7-11, and 3-4 from the free throw line which was good for 17 points. She also recorded 3 steals. Madison Spacher led the team recording 7 rebounds and 13 points.
 
VCSU scored 17 points off turnovers, 31 points of the bench and 60 points in the paint. As a team the Vikings shot 37-67 from the field and 4-10 from behind the line.
 
Midland was led by Jenna Weber who scored 20 points. She shot 8-16 from the field and 2-6 from beyond the arc. Sarah Shepard held down the glass for Midland recording an impressive 15 rebounds. Midland shot 25-66, 7-26 from beyond the arc. The scored 30 points in the paint and 10 off turnovers.
