VG’s Supermarket in Caro closing this winter, 54 jobs eliminated

Date:

CARO, Mich. (WJRT) – Caro is losing one of its three grocery stores.

SpartanNash is closing the VG’s Supermarket at 1520 W. Caro Road sometime in March, according to a letter filed with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

The letter does not say why the store is closing or list a specific date for the last day of business. VG’s competes with a Walmart Supercenter and an Aldi grocery store, which opened in 2022 across town.

All of the 54 employees at VG’s will lose their jobs when the store closes. The letter from SpartanNash lists their job titles ranging from store director down to merchandise associates and cashiers.

Layoffs are scheduled to run from March 16 to 27. SpartanNash has not announced future plans for the VG’s building.
