As expected, Vincent Labrune has been re-elected as the head of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the organisation responsible for running domestic football in France, for the next four years.
It was thought for a brief period of time that Labrune would run opposed, that was until reported government intervention allowed Cyril Linette to challenge Labrune’s presidency. The latter has come under criticism in recent months, notably for the handling of the TV rights deal.
Labrune wins over 85% of the vote
Having initially set a €1bn asking price for the Ligue 1 broadcasting rights for the current cycle, he ultimately only achieved half of that figure. That deal was struck under one month before the start of the Ligue 1 campaign, whilst overseas rights, for example in the United Kingdom, were only attributed after the start of the season.
Nonetheless, Labrune has been re-elected, as was expected, and as confirmed by the LFP. The organisation’s Administrative Council has validated the vote taken this afternoon in Paris. He received 14 votes to Linette’s two. There was just one abstention, according to a report from RMC Sport. Having earned over 85% of the vote, the former Olympique de Marseille president will remain president of the LFP until 2028.
