Virginia Tech Basketball Recruiting News: Hokies make Naomi Benson & Destiny Lunan top choices

Date:

In this edition of Virginia Tech basketball recruiting news, the women’s basketball team makes the Top 10 for a Class of 2025 recruit while the men are one of three teams actively recruiting a Class of 2025 player along with a pair of Big Ten programs.

Naomi Benson, ranked No. 99 on ESPN’s 2025 HoopGuriz Recruiting Rankings, narrowed her list of schools down to 10 with the Hokies cutting. The 6-foot-3 wing from Streetsboro, Ohio, has multiple ACC and Big Ten schools listed, but not Ohio State, surprisingly.

The ACC schools along with Virginia Tech are Wake Forest and California, while Big Ten schools Penn State and Illinois. Also on the list were DePaul, Alabama, Memphis and Mississippi State.

Destiny Lunan narrowed her choices down to eight schools and Virginia Tech made the cut. Along with the Hokies, North Carolina State, Syracuse, West Virginia, Arizona, Colorado, Tennessee, and Texas Tech are also in her top eight.

Lunan, who is ranked 94th by ESPN in the Class of 2025, will take an official visit to Blacksburg on Sept. 28.

Virginia Tech men’s coach MIke Young was recently in attendance to see Class of 2025 four-star Jordan Scott, who has a scheduled visit to Blacksburg on Spet. 20 after visiting Maryland this weekend. Also in attendance was Michgan State assistant Doug Wojcik for head coach Tom Izzo.

Recently, Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports described Scott’s game,

“Big wings who can shoot, defend, play the right way, and still have untapped potential are very rare,’’ he wrote.

So far, the Hokies have commitments from four-star center Christian Gurdak and three-star Sin’Cere Jones in the Class of 2025.
