The West Australian community has rallied to support the partner of WA Police officer Liam Trimmer, who fell and died in a freak accident at his own engagement party.
It has been revealed Trimmer was also going to announce the couple were expecting their first child before he fell and fatally cut his neck on Saturday night.
Trimmer, 29, was described by friends as his partner Lilly Watts’ “soulmate” in a GoFundMe launched on Wednesday.
“The evening was meant to be a joyous celebration of Lilly and Liam’s recent engagement and announcing their pregnancy, a huge milestone in their journey together,” the fundraiser read.
“Friends and family gathered to share in their happiness. In a cruel twist of events, Liam’s life was cut short leaving behind a void that can never be filled.”
Watts, a clinical registered nurse at Royal Perth Hospital, rushed to try and save the senior constable, along with other nurses and police officers at the party.
“At almost 14 weeks pregnant, Lilly now faces the prospect of raising a child without her beloved partner, while also grappling with the financial responsibilities that come with homeownership,” the GoFundMe said.
Trimmer, 29, moved to WA from the UK dreaming of a life Down Under.
He graduated from Joondalup Police Academy in 2013 and moved to Kalgoorlie in 2017, where he embedded himself in the community while playing for the local rugby team.
