He was the son of the late Vladimer and Genevive (McCauley) Bielik born July 14, 1936, in Buffalo, New York. He was very fond of his only sister: Madelynn (Linda) Dranschak. He graduated from Father Baker High School, then joined the United States Air Force in 1955. Walt completed Cryptographic Operations School and was first stationed in Alaska. He was assigned to Hill Air Force Base and served there until he was discharged, rising to the rank of e-8 Senior Master Sergeant.
He married Joyce Summers, a Utah native, on August 21, 1959, and settled in Ogden, Utah.
Walt served for more than 35 years in the Air Force Reserve. He had an outstanding career at Hill Air Force Base as a civilian telecom specialist from 1961 to 1992. In retirement Walt was a transport driver for disabled residents and worked at the Golden Spike Arena. In recent years, he had been a volunteer at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home. Walt also supported and participated actively in Joyce’s Tupperware career for more than 60 years.
Walt’s hobbies included reading, spending time at his cabin, travel, and a passion for US history  especially military and Civil War history. He visited many historic sites and monuments in America.
Walt and Joyce have 3 children (Craig and Francene Bielik; Mike and Julie Bielik and Valerie and Randy Draeger), 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His first great-great grandchild is expected in December.
