Warriors say Draymond Green could return Friday after MRI on calf came back clear

Date:

After missing play on Tuesday due to a calf injury, Golden State Warriors big man Draymond Green won’t be missing too much time after all. The Warriors announced Thursday that Green had an MRI on Wednesday, which came back clear.

Green missed Tuesday’s NBA Cup game — a group stage loss to the Denver Nuggets — with left calf soreness.

Despite the negative test, the 34-year-old forward will still miss Thursday night’s game against the Houston Rockets. Green’s status going forward, including for Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, is still up in the air, per the Warriors.

With Green on the bench again on Thursday, third-year forward Jonathan Kuminga is expected to step in.

In his 11th year as Golden State’s starting power forward, Green is averaging 28:32 minutes per game, earning an average of 8.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game.

The Warriors, who are 12-8, begin a three-game homestead on Thursday, including back-to-back games against the Timberwolves on Friday and Sunday.
