Bill Belichick is getting plenty of use out of his new ‘Carolina Blue’ wardrobe this week.

Belichick was introduced as North Carolina’s new football coach earlier in the week and gave a lengthy introductory press conference on the Chapel Hill campus. On Saturday, he made a guest appearance at halftime of UNC men’s basketball’s game against La Salle.

The crowd erupted into cheers and gave a standing ovation for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach. Watch the introduction here:

Belichick thanked the crowd for the warm welcome and added a few words about the program he hopes to build.

“I can’t wait to represent this school, university out here, Kenan Stadium, and give the fans something to be proud of,” Belichick told the crowd. “We’re going to work hard and we’re going to play hard, and I’m looking forward to that.”

As Belichick looks to build a championship-caliber football team in Chapel Hill, it’s fitting that one of his first public appearances would be at the Dean E. Smith Center. UNC has seen great national success in men’s basketball, holding six national championships, the third most all-time. Dean Smith, the arena’s namesake, was a coaching legend for the Tar Heels.

UNC has never won a national championship in football. However, with the 12-team College Football Playoff format and Belichick at the helm, the coming years might be the best opportunity for the Tar Heels to compete on a national stage.

Belichick acknowledged the legendary coaches like Smith that walked the campus before him, as he aims to cement his legacy further with success in the college game.
