The comedy star’s sons Magnus 20, and Mattias, 17, could be seen trying to give their dad a helping hand as his coattails were sewn together
Will Ferrell‘s sons gave their dad a helping hand, after he had a minor wardrobe malfunction while attending a premiere.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, the actor and comedian, 57, made an appearance at the Egyptian Theatre Hollywood in Los Angeles to promote his new documentary Will & Harper — and two of his sons — Magnus 20, and Mattias, 17, tagged along.
While Will was giving an interview, Magnus and Mattias both noticed that tails of their dad’s jacket were still stitched together and they ducked down behind him to try to separate the tails. Eventually, they came back with a pair of scissors to cut them apart.
In a hilarious video shared to The Hollywood Reporter‘s TikTok page, the younger Ferrells can be seen running up behind their dad as he stands next to his co-star Harper Steele. Together they pulled at and lifted up the back of their dad’s navy blue suit jacket, where the loose threads were still hanging. The Step Brothers actor can be heard jokingly saying that his kids were acting like “primates” and posed so they could finally fix his suit.
Also in attendance was the actor’s wife Viveca Paulin. The couple — who have been married since 2000 — also share a 14-year-old son named Axel, who was not present at the premiere.
The whole family posed together for some rare photos, and Will could be seen wearing the navy blue suit, light blue shirt and blue tie — as well as a printed pocket square to accessorize the look. Mattias kept things business-casual as he wore a navy button-down and blue slacks, and Magnus wore a white shirt and an open blazer, along with a brown belt and gold chain necklace.
Will & Harper follows Will and his longtime friend and former Saturday Night Live writer Steele as they embark on a 16-day road trip from New York City to L.A. following her decision to come out as transgender.
The film, which played at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and Telluride Film Festival prior to its upcoming Netflix release, also features appearances from SNL alums Seth Meyers, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Colin Jost, Will Forte, Molly Shannon, Tim Meadows and Paula Pell.

Speaking with PEOPLE on the red carpet, Will said that the project — as well as Steele’s friendship — meant a ton to him, adding that he could “talk about this movie forever.”
“I cry every single time. I have my Kleenex right here,” he said of the movie, adding that the documentary is “one of my favorite things I’ve ever gotten to be a part of.”
“The questions that were asked and the reaction that it’s getting and that she’s getting for being so courageous and brave in sharing her story, it brings me to tears every time,” he told PEOPLE.
Will & Harper is in select theaters now and begins streaming on Netflix on Sept. 27.
