Webb earns second straight conference scoring title

THREE RIVERS — The Sturgis golf team competed in the Wolverine Conference Championships on Wednesday.

Hosting the event was Pine View Golf Club in Three Rivers. The Trojans shot a team score of 379 on the day to finish in fourth place. Because of the tiebreaker for the season, Sturgis finished second overall in the standings behind Otsego.

It wasn’t all bad news, however. Sturgis finished with three players earning First Team All-Conference honors. Senior Maddy Webb, junior Piper Sterling and senior Mia Martinez each earned their way onto the First Team list.

Webb also finished her second consecutive year as the scoring champion for the conference. She was named as the Outstanding Golfer for the conference on Wednesday.

Webb led Sturgis with a round of 85 to finish third overall as an individual. Sterling shot a round of 87, that was good enough for fifth place overall on the day.

Martinez shot 100, Mazie Sterling shot a round of 107. Gabby Netke added a 109 and Ximena Medina fired a round of 117 for Sturgis.

Three Rivers was led by Maggie Gose with a round of 95. Ashton Ware shot 97.

Delaney Harper carded a 109 for a personal best, Elizabeth Oestrike shot 120, Bella Tippett added a 126 and Isabella Williamson shot 139.

On Tuesday, the Trojans will be playing in the Region 10 golf tournament hosted by Coldwater Golf Club. There are several teams competing on the day, including host Coldwater. Harper Creek, DeWitt, Dexter, Fenton, Jackson, Jackson NorthWest, Lansing Waverly, Linden, Mason, South Lyon, South Lyon East and the Trojans will all be competing at the event.

Three Rivers will play next Thursday at Arbor Hills Golf Course in Jackson for the Region 15 golf tournament. Battle Creek Pennfield, Berrien Springs, Charlotte, Dowagiac, Eaton Rapids, Edwardsburg, Marshall, Otsego, Parma Western, Paw Paw, South Haven, Vicksburg and the Lady Cats will be competing at the event.
