NILES — The Sturgis golf team picked up its first conference jamboree victory of the season on Monday.
It came at Orchard Hills Country Club in Niles, where the Lady Trojans fired a team score of 179 to beat Otsego (186) and Plainwell (187). All eight teams competed at the jamboree. Otsego remains in first place as we
Winning the individual medalist honors on the day was Maddy Webb for the Trojans — she fired a round of 38 to pace the team to first place.
Sturgis also received solid rounds on the day from several players. Mia Martinez shot a round of 46, Ximena Medina carded a personal-best round of 47 and Piper Sterling shot 48. Mazie Sterling shot 50 and Gabby Netke added a 63.
Three Rivers finished seventh with a team score of 229.
Ashton Ware and Elizabeth Oestrike were the Cats’ low rounds, carding a pair of 55s on the day. Maggie Gose’s 56 and Delaney Harper’s 63 finished out the team scoring. Cassandra Gillette posted a 66 and Bella Tippett shot 75.
Last week, Sturgis finished third overall at a jamboree hosted by Pine View with a 186. Plainwell won that won with a round of 176, Otsego was second at 185. Webb earned medalist honors here as well, firing a round of 40 on the day. Piper Sterling’s 43 was critical to Sturgis’ placement on the team scoring. Martinez added a 51, both Medina and Netke shot 52 and Mazie Sterling shot 53.
