Inter and Juventus have recently discovered which teams they will face in the group stages of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and though there was no possibility of the two Serie A sides being drawn into the same group, there is still a chance that they could meet in the knockout rounds.
Here is what needs to happen for a Derby d’Italia match-up at the Club World Cup.
When could Inter and Juventus face each other at 2025 Club World Cup
Inter have been drawn into Group E at the Club World Cup, along with River Plate, Urawa Red Diamonds and CF Monterrey, while Juventus are in Group G with Manchester City, Wydad AC and Al Ain.
Naturally, both teams will need to finish in the top two of their respective groups to qualify for the knock-out rounds. There are four possible ways that this could happen: Both teams win the group, Inter win theirs and Juventus finish second, Juventus win the group and Inter finish second, and both Inter and Juventus finishing second.
If both teams win their groups, Inter and Juventus could theoretically meet in the quarter-finals, assuming that both teams also win their round of 16 matches.
If one team finishes first in the group and the other second, Inter and Juventus will go into opposite sides of the knock-out bracket and will not meet each other until the final. That is the case regardless of who comes first and who comes second.
If both teams finish second in their group, Inter and Juventus will again meet in the quarter-final, albeit in the opposite side of the bracket to the one that they would end up in if both teams win their group.
