Which Columbus area girls tennis players won OHSAA district championships?

Dublin Coffman senior Lauren Burkett repeated as Division I district singles champion, and one Upper Arlington duo outlasted another in the doubles final to cap the girls tennis district tournament Friday at Columbus Academy.

Burkett defeated Olentangy Berlin sophomore Soleil Cordell 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the singles final, after sweeping Chillicothe senior Bella Flores 6-2, 6-1 in a semifinal. Cordell reached the final with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Dublin Scioto senior Amelia Kunard.

Flores beat Kunard 6-3, 6-2 for third place.

The top four finishers in singles and doubles advanced to state Thursday and next Friday at the College of Wooster. Friday’s competitors secured their state berths during the first day of district play Tuesday.

In the doubles final, UA senior Alice Hawley and sophomore Alexa Roth edged senior Ava Kramer and junior Dani Ball 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Both teams advanced to the final with 6-0, 6-1 semifinal wins. Hawley and Roth swept Hilliard Davidson junior Madison Kline and sophomore Mackenzie Kline, and Ball and Kramer got past New Albany senior Sophia Bojko and junior Reava Desai.

Bojko and Desai defeated the Kline sisters 6-3, 7-5 in the third-place match.

Bexley’s Bowles, Columbus Academy doubles team win Division II

Bexley junior and two-time defending state singles champion Amiya Bowles rolled to 12-0 this season and 52-0 in her high school career with a third straight district title, but unlike her previous 11 wins this year, it was not a shutout.

Bowles defeated Columbus School for Girls sophomore Iva Karagirova 6-2, 6-0 in the final.

Karagirova will be making her first state appearance.

In Division II, only the district champion and runner-up qualify for state.

Academy senior Tamanna Arya and junior Sophie Wu won the doubles title, outlasting CSG juniors Victoria Dizon and Priya Mehta 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
