Which gyms open on New Year’s Day? Planet Fitness, YMCA, more

Date:

There’s nothing quite like getting some physical activity in to start the day off right, New Year’s resolutions aside.

The best way to make sure you will be able to lift some weights, run on the treadmill, or take a Zumba class to kick off the new year is by figuring out when your gym will be open, or if it will be open at all.

Some gyms may be closed completely, while others may offer members the ability to get a workout in during adjusted hours. Banks, retail stores, restaurant chains, and even post offices tend to close or adopt limited hours to observe a number of holidays, including New Year’s Day.

Here’s what you need to know about the hours of operation for major fitness facilities, including Planet Fitness, Gold’s Gym, and YMCA, and whether or not they will be open.

When is New Year’s Day?

New Year’s Day falls on Wednesday, Jan. 1 this year.

The easiest way to find out if your local Planet Fitness will be open is by searching for your location and verifying the hours posted here.

All Planet Fitness locations are independently owned and operated by individual franchise owners, so hours may vary by location.

“At Planet Fitness, we believe it’s important to stay active during the holiday season and with the PF Black Card you can bring a family member or friend with you for free and enjoy a workout together before your holiday gathering,” Planet Fitness said in a statement.
