Who won Arizona’s Senate seat? What to know about the close race between Lake and Gallego

Date:

Election Day was yesterday in Arizona, and voters had a chance to fill one seat in the race for the state’s Senate seat.

Currently held by independent Kyrsten Sinema, the seat is a six-year term that overlaps current Senator Mark Kelly. Sinema did not run for reelection.

On Tuesday, Arizona voters had a chance to elect either Democrat Ruben Gallego, an Iraq War veteran and former congressman, or Republican Kari Lake, a former television news anchor and staunch Donald Trump ally.

Gallego ran on a platform of protecting abortion access, housing affordability and Arizona’s water supply. Lake ran on a platform of preventing abortion access and securing the border.

Here’s who is winning the US Senate election right now, including when we might find out who won.

Who is winning the US Senate race?

Gallego is leading current polling but by a smaller margin than some may have thought.

With an estimated 60% of the vote counted, Gallego leads Lake by 2.3 percentage points.

When will we find out who won?

Votes are still being counted across the state. Though roughly 60% of the vote has been counted, election officials say counting would continue for a few days after the election. State law gives county election officials about two weeks to wrap up counting.
