Chelsea have been securing a lot of young talent with their new transfer policy and one young talent the team betted on was Mykhailo Mudryk. However, one expert writes that landing the Ukraine international but failing to secure Paris Saint-Germain’s rising star is proving costly.
The Blues beat Arsenal to the winger, signing him for €70 million, but so far the move hasn’t worked out for the player or the club. After over 18 months at the club, Mudryk has scored seven goals and provided four assists across all competitions, but he’s not a key part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.
Moreover, Chelsea was also in on Bradley Barcola when the winger was at Olympique Lyonnais to make the situation worse. Barcola eventually landed with the Parisians, and right now, the Premier League side whiffing on the Frenchman should feel like a gut punch, says Football Transfer’s Robin Bairner.
“Six months after Mudryk joined Chelsea, the Blues took an interest in another left winger: Bradley Barcola, who was then of Lyon,” Bairner wrote. “In a fight every bit as intense as the one that took the Ukraine international to Stamford Bridge, the Premier League side were pipped to the wideman by PSG.
“Barcola had teething issues at Parc des Princes, but since settling, he is starting to look a bargain at €45m. In particular, he shone in the second half of last season, excelling in the Champions League against Barcelona, and was a player who had a huge impact as France made a run to the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
“While Mudryk’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has remained relatively stationary since arriving at Chelsea, Barcola’s has leapt up. Both are worth around €40m now, yet there is little doubt in whose career is moving in the right direction.”
Barcola has scored in all three matches so far for the Ligue 1 side and is filling the scoring boots that Kylian Mbappe left behind. Furthermore, he’s showing that PSG have a new star on their hands.
