The fiercely contested Border Gavaskar Trophy ended on Sunday, January 5 at the Sydney Cricket Ground with a Beau Webster boundary off Washington Sundar as Australia regained the BGT after 10 years.
However, Sunil Gavaskar was left disappointed at the conclusion of the series after he was not invited to present the trophy named after him and Alan Border to Australia captain Pat Cummins following Australia’s sealing the series 3-1 in Sydney.

Following Gavaskar’s statement, the Cricket Australia has acknowledged their mistake of not calling the duo together for the presentation and have responded to the situation.

The CA had long back made the decision to invite Border alone for the presentation in case Australia regains the title and Gavaskar alone in case India manages to make it 2-2 and retain the trophy for the fourth consecutive time.

“We acknowledge it would have been preferable if both Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar had been asked to go on stage,” a CA official said.
