Expect to see Caitlin Clark at more Butler basketball games this year
The Indiana Fever rookie says expect to see her at more Butler men’s basketball games this season.
INDIANAPOLIS — Butler basketball fans might be seeing a certain Indiana Fever player in their midst at games this winter at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Star rookie Caitlin Clark said Tuesday she plans to attend some Butler games after her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, was hired as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs.
She may even become a bit of a fan — but not at the expense of her homegrown Hawkeyes.
“It’ll be fun to go to those games,” Clark said. “I love college basketball, and obviously he’s been around it his whole life and invested a lot into it. It’ll be fun, it’ll give me something to do all throughout the offseason as well, give me someone to root for, but it’s definitely still ‘Go Hawks.'”

McCaffery and Clark started dating while they were both still at Iowa; McCaffery played six years for his father, Fran McCaffery, on the men’s basketball team from 2018-23. Connor then became a basketball development coordinator for the Indiana Pacers for the 2023-24 NBA season, helping with the scout team and video operations.
Clark played her final college season at Iowa in 2023-24 and reunited with McCaffery in Indianapolis when she was drafted No. 1 overall to the Fever.
Now, the two will still be able to stay within city limits as McCaffery gets a promotion. McCaffery will also have the chance to coach both of his brothers as an assistant at Butler; his younger brother, Patrick, transferred to Butler from Iowa for the 2024-25 season, and Jack is a 2025 commit to the Bulldogs.
“I’m super excited for him, obviously his basketball knowledge is pretty good, and it makes it fun when we can bounce ideas off of each other,” Clark said. “I’m just super proud, he worked super hard for that.”
And Clark will continue to have a shooting partner; someone she says she can consistently beat.
“That’s definitely something we love, coming in here and shooting late at night, having some shooting competitions,” Clark said. “It gets a little heated, I definitely outshoot him more than he outshoots me, but he tries to think otherwise.”
