India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah provided his team a perfect start by cleaning up opener Shadman Islam (2).It put Bangladesh under pressure immediately, and Akash Deep made full use of the opportunity by bowling on the stumps to reap rich dividends.
Bowling from the same end as Bumrah after replacing his senior teammate, Akash struck off the first delivery of his second over, rattling the stumps to send Zakir Hasan (3) back in the hut.
The right-arm pacer, playing only his second Test, struck off the next delivery as well and cleaned up Mominul Haque for a first-ball duck to put himself on a hat-trick.
Bangladesh’s score read a precarious 22 for 3 at that stage, but veteran Mushfiqur Rahim safely negotiated the hat-trick ball to deny Akash.
Earlier in the day, Ashwin and Jadeja could add only five runs to their partnership when the latter was dismissed for 86. But their stand of 199 runs took India to safe waters.
Ashwin departed soon after for 113, while Akash contributed a useful 17 runs.
At lunch on Friday, Bangladesh were 26 for 3.
