The Steelers might not have receiver George Pickens this weekend, due to a hamstring injury. They’re relying on the other guys they have (Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, Mike Williams, Ben Skowronek, Scotty Miller), mainly because the free-agent cupboard is bare.
Another receiver entered the conversation on Wednesday, with the Patriots releasing veteran K.J. Osborn.
Osborn first will have to pass through waivers, and the Steelers will be relatively low on the pecking order. If Osborn clears waivers, the Steelers could sign him.
And the Pittsburgh offense wouldn’t take a ton of time to learn. Quarterback Russell Wilson trusts his receivers. He’ll throw them the ball and let them go get it.
Regardless, at a time when there aren’t many available receivers, Osborn is becoming available — and the Steelers might decide to give him a shot.
