Wind and Rain Hit Tampa Bay Bridges as Milton Nears Landfall

Date:

High winds and rain began hammering bridges across Tampa Bay as Hurricane Milton approached landfall in west-central Florida on Wednesday afternoon, October 9.

Footage captured by live traffic cameras at around 5 pm ET Wednesday shows stormy conditions on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, a four-mile-long span across Lower Tampa Bay that connects Pinellas and Manatee counties.

Milton was expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday evening, bringing devastating wind and rain and a “destructive storm surge” of 10 feet or more along Florida’s west-central coast, according to the National Hurricane Center. Credit: Florida DoT via Storyful
