The Government of Antigua & Barbuda, in collaboration with Cricket West Indies (CWI), is commemorating the nation’s 43rd anniversary of Independence by offering special ticket discounts for The Rivalry: West Indies vs. England One Day Internationals.
Tickets are advertised as costing “from $7, but will vary depending on location and other factors.
Discounted pricing for locals is welcome because ticket pricing and other costs associated with Test match cricket in the West Indies have made attending matches challenging for many locals, especially considering economic conditions across the region.
Although Cricket West Indies has tried to keep costs accessible, offering significant discounts to locals and even children’s rates in some areas, prices can still feel steep when taking into account the average income in the region. This has been a factor in dwindling local attendance at Test matches in recent years.
Furthermore, the financial focus on shorter formats like T20 has impacted the support and enthusiasm for Test cricket, as the shorter formats offer cheaper, quicker entertainment options that appeal more broadly.
The high cost of stadium tickets combined with other expenses, such as travel and food, often makes attending a Test match an unaffordable luxury for many West Indian fans. Meanwhile, the main revenue from the matches comes from TV broadcasting rights.
Tickets are on sale online at and local discounts may be obtained by using the promo code “RIVALRY” at checkout.
The matches, set for Thursday, October 31 at 2 PM and Saturday, November 2 at 9:30 AM, will take place at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
This partnership, driven by the Ministry of Education, Sports & Creative Industries, offers fans living in Antigua & Barbuda the chance to rally behind their team at significantly reduced prices.
The Honorable Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports & Creative Industries, expressed his enthusiasm:
