Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office warning residents about potential scam calls, urging caution

(WFRV) – The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is warning its constituents about potential scam calls that are occurring in the area.

According to the release, the calls are supposedly from people posing as Captain of Field Services Todd Christie and Detective Sergeant Brian Hammen.

The release said that they are not calling people nor leaving messages about “VERY IMPORTANT LEGAL MATTERS.”

Anybody who receives these suspicious phone calls should inform the department. Those who are in doubt about a caller should look up the number, as while law enforcement does sometimes make calls, they will not ask for money to settle legal matters.
