Winter weather advisory issued for Binghamton. How much snow is expected

Date:

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Binghamton area Wednesday, with the National Weather Service expecting potentially hazardous conditions from Wednesday evening through Friday morning as a winter storm sweeps through New York.

National Weather Service Binghamton meteorologist Kaitlyn Lardeo explained the area will likely begin to see snow showers Wednesday afternoon that will taper off in the evening before coming back more severely overnight.

Other parts of the state will see more severe weather. Up to 20 inches of lake effect snow is possible in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.

The snowfall in the Southern Tier will not be as heavy, but it is likely to impact the Thursday morning commute.

Lardeo further said hazardous conditions and limited visibility are likely early Thursday morning and afternoon as “gusty winds” are likely to pick up, along with the snow.

Snow showers are expected to stick around all day Thursday and into Thursday evening but should begin to slow down Friday morning.

The Binghamton area is expected to see around 2 to 3 inches of snow.
