September 14th was going to be a huge weekend for Wisconsin athletics. Not only did the football team have a chance to shock the world against number four Alabama, but the basketball program was hosting multiple top recruits on official visits. Well, the football team came up and short, and apparently Greg Gard and company did too.
The Badgers were supposed to host several top prospects for official visits this past weekend, but it turns out almost none of them made it to Madison. According to BadgerExtra, neither Davion Hannah or Tommy Ahneman ended up coming to campus. Amari Allen, another top recruit scheduled to visit , committed to Alabama just days before his planned trip to Wisconsin.
Hannah, the number 31 player in the 2025 class, had been pursued by Wisconsin for years, and even made his final nine schools. It seems as though it’s not meant to be for the Badgers as the canceled visit is almost surely the final nail in the coffin.
Ahneman, a top center and the number 129 prospect in the class, was also scheduled to take an official visit. But after centers Will Garlock and Italy’s Riccardo Greppi made commitments, the talented North Dakota prospect backed out of the visit. Understandably, there were just too many cooks in the kitchen.
The only player to take their planned official visit was New Hampshire’s Ryder Frost. He’s the number 85 player in the 2025 class and will still be a big-time get if the Badgers can land him.
Overall though, it’s a bit of a letdown after the initial excitement of the big weekend. Landing Hannah might have been just too good to be true, but anytime you have a chance at a top 50 player, you take it. Hopefully the Badgers can still add at least one more piece to the 2025 class before it’s all said and done.
