Coming off a commanding win over Winthrop on “Education Day” to open the season, Georgia Tech women’s basketball returns to the court on Friday night to welcome cross-town rival Georgia State. Four Yellow Jackets led the way offensively against the Eagles, finishing in double-figures, paced by freshman newcomer Dani Carnegie with a team-high 17 points off the bench. Tonie Morgan followed with 15 points, while Inés Noguero and Ariadna Termis contributed 11 points each.

Georgia State comes into the matchup off a loss at Akron to open the season, falling 81-73 to the Zips. Crystal Henderson paced the way for the Panthers in the opener, dropping in 20 points to lead a trio of players in double figures. Mikyla Tolivert added 17 points, while Mya Williams contributed 15.

A long-standing tradition between the programs, Friday night’s meeting marks the 43rd all-time on the hardwood. Georgia Tech leads the series, 31-11, having taken 20-straight, including the last 12 in McCamish Pavilion. The Yellow Jackets lead the series at home, 17-5, and have not dropped a game to the Atlanta rival since Dec. 19, 1998.

GEORGIA TECH WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
Georgia Tech is celebrating the 50th anniversary of women’s basketball on The Flats this season. Under the direction of coach Jim Culpepper, Georgia Tech competed its first year in the Georgia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (GAIAW) in 1974-75 before joining the ACC in 1979-80. Tech has seen many highlights over 50 years, including playing in the NCAA Tournament 11 times, with two Sweet 16 appearances (2012, 2021), and producing nine WNBA draft picks, featuring first round draft picks Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett. In its first postseason berth in school history, Georgia Tech captured the 1992 National Women’s Invitational Tournament. Currently in its sixth season under head coach Nell Fortner, the Yellow Jackets have reach postseason play three times in the last five years.
