WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW outscored visiting Clinton College, 50-20, over the second and third quarters to earn a 79-42 victory in its home opener on Saturday at Trask Coliseum.
The Seahawks picked up their first win of the season to move to 1-2 while Clinton suffered its first setback to drop to 4-1.
Taylor Henderson led four Seahawks in double-figure scoring with 17 points. Joining her were Jania Hall with 11 and Ali Zelaya and Evan Miller, both with 10 points.
Henderson matched her career-high with six assists.
Tia Dobson recorded five steals for the Seahawks, who forced the Bears into 37 turnovers.
Zelaya rounded out her first career double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds and she added four blocks, also a career-best.
UNCW broke the game open with a 29-point second quarter. Henderson and Zelaya fueled the quarter with eight points apiece and Zelaya hauled in seven rounds.
UNCW’s 79 points and 37-point margin of victory were program-highs during UNCW Head Coach Nicole Woods‘ tenure.
Diamond Moore-Heath led Clinton with 15 points.
The Seahawks next visit Presbyterian on Nov.14 at 11 a.m.
