This afternoon, the sun leaves brooding Scorpio and enters Sagittarius. The sign of the archer is spontaneous and adventurous, but also driven by a desire for experience and wisdom. During the next month — and especially today, as the sun gets a boost from powerful Pluto — think about your own sense of purpose. If you’ve been feeling lost or aimless, don’t give up. Keep exploring with an open mind, and you’ll find the meaning you’ve been searching for.

You’re naturally bold; you aren’t someone to hang back waiting for life to happen to you. If a friend hurts your feelings, you’ll tell them directly; if an idea doesn’t work out, you’ll pivot. Sometimes, though, you get so caught up in reacting to immediate, day-to-day issues, that you forget about the long-term. Today, challenge yourself to think bigger. Set goals that will take sustained effort to come to fruition. A little bit of effort now will pay off later, so be intentional about laying the groundwork.

You’re not afraid of change — as long as it’s change that you’ve chosen for yourself. It’s a different story entirely when you don’t have a say in the matter, when you feel like you’re at the mercy of other people, or random luck. And today, whether or not you’re ready for it, life could get unpredictable, and you’ll be happiest if you can let go of your need for control. You have sound judgment, courage, and a community ready to help. You might not know what’s going to happen next, but you don’t need to.

You do your best to be accepting of other people’s quirks, their imperfections, their beliefs that differ from yours. Life would be boring if everybody were exactly the same; you don’t want friends who are all carbon copies of yourself. But today, it’s important to remember that you don’t have to peaceably tolerate unkindness or views you genuinely find repugnant. Your time and energy is limited, so save it for the people who make you feel good.

Today, you might find it hard to let things go. If a friend makes a weird comment, you can’t just brush it off; you need to figure out what they mean. If you learn something that contradicts earlier ideas, you can’t ignore it; you need to dive deep and reassess everything you thought you knew. This could make you come across as a bit intense today, but there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not your job to pretend to be chill if that’s not how you really feel, so follow your curiosity and instincts where they lead.

As much as you enjoy the company of others, you don’t typically rely on anyone else to have a good time. If an event is boring, you’ll liven it up yourself; if a conversation falls flat, you know how to steer it to more interesting ground. Today, though, you need to be around others who can match your energy and keep you on your toes. Step back and give others a chance to rise to the occasion, and you may be positively surprised.

No matter how much you love the people in your life, or how much you recognize the value of working together, today you might need to be left alone. You don’t want anyone else’s attention, and you don’t need their suggestions or critique. The time for that will come later — for now, you need some time to work through your ideas on your own. Don’t push yourself to be more social than feels right. Ask other people for their input once you’re ready, not before.

You’re probably not the sort of person who loves to stay busy all the time; while sometimes you have no choice but to rush around getting things done, most of the time you’re just as happy relaxing, taking the scenic route. Today, though, there are probably a lot of little tasks on your plate. Don’t put them off until tomorrow: You’re especially competent and efficient now. More importantly, moving about your neighborhood, making small talk with strangers, and checking tasks off the list are likely to bring you genuine joy, so don’t miss out.

Your instincts are sharp and your judgment is sound; once you’ve formed an impression of something or someone, you see little reason to second-guess yourself. Today, though, you might notice some cracks. Maybe you’ll realize you’ve gotten some details wrong, or that you were missing important parts of the story. Don’t beat yourself up — everyone is mistaken sometimes — just move forward with an open mind and a willingness to reassess what you thought you knew.

Sometimes, the only way to think straight is to find a quiet place where you can hear yourself think, without the distraction of everyone else’s opinions. Right now, though, you might discover that you need the opposite. Conversation with others can help you define your own positions; putting yourself in unfamiliar situations can show you wonderful new sides of yourself. Solitude is important, but today, get back out in the world.

You recognize how much of your life is totally outside of your control — and because of this, you’re loath to give up any of the control you do have. You hold tight to your routines, your work ethic, your standards for yourself: No matter what else happens, at least you have a say over how you respond. Most of the time, this mindset helps — but sometimes, it makes you a bit too hard on yourself. Today, try to loosen the reins a bit. Give yourself space to make mistakes.

Everybody changes over time — we collect experiences, learn about ourselves, adapt to the world as it transforms around us. Sometimes, though, you worry that as you grow, you’re betraying your younger self, your old ideals. Today, try to view change more positively. Each time you try something new, or change your mind, or update your goals to reflect the person you are now, you’re acting with courage and integrity. You’re not moving away from some better or truer version of yourself, but toward it.

Sometimes, other people’s attention feels like more trouble than it’s worth. You enjoy praise and recognition, of course, but you’d be just as happy to be left in peace, able to live your life free of the pressure of everyone else’s expectations. Today, though, you’ll probably be reminded that the world is full of people who respect and admire you, who look to you as a model of wisdom, integrity, or community-mindedness. Part of you might want to hide from them, tell them to find someone else, but try to rise to the occasion.
